Information from the Organizing Committee, June 29, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

The 6th International Conference “Debris Flows: Disasters, Risk, Forecast, Protection” was scheduled to be held in Tajikistan in 2020. This conference is a continuation of a series of events under this name held in Pyatigorsk (2008), Moscow (2012), Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (2014), Irkutsk and Arshan (2016) and Tbilisi (2018).

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the associated closure of borders and the cancellation of international flights, the conference was postponed to September/October 2021 by the decision of the Organizing Committee. However, there are still some serious challenges to face. The pandemic is still ongoing in many parts of the world. In addition, there are currently some security issues in the border area where a field excursion was planned for the conference participants. In this regard, we have not received confirmation from the host country about the readiness to hold the conference in Tajikistan on the previously agreed dates. As we have responsibilities for our members and all the conference participants, we sincerely apologise but we cannot invite conference participants to visit Tajikistan at the moment.

Based on these exceptional circumstances, the following decision was made:
Consider that the 6th international conference was held in September 2020 in a reduced (correspondence) format.

The Proceedings of the 6th conference was published in 2020 and is available from the conference website at: https://www.debrisflow.ru/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/DF20_Proceedings_Vol_1.pdf

With this letter, we inform the participants of the 6th International Conference about this decision.

We sincerely regret that the participants will not be able to come to Tajikistan, where the study of debris flows is of great importance for the population and the government. We are grateful to the efforts that the organizers spent in preparing the conference. However, due to the circumstances outlined above we did have no alternative but to cancel the meeting in Tajikistan. The main emphasis must be safety for all of us during this demanding time.

The date and venue of the 7th international conference “Debris Flows: Disasters, Risk, Forecast, Protection” will be announced in the future.

Information from the Organizing Committee, July 2, 2020

Dear сolleagues,

Due to the unstable epidemiological situation in the world, temporary suspension of air flights between many countries, and restrictions on mass events, the Organizing Committee of the 6th Conference “Debris Flows: Disasters, Risk, Forecast, Protection” (Dushanbe, Tajikistan) decided to postpone the conference to autumn 2021. We will announce the exact dates after the confirmation by the authorities of Tajikistan.

Articles submitted by participants will be published in the first volume of the conference Proceedings in 2020. Also, we plan to publish (after reviewing) some articles selected by the Organizing Committee, in issues 2 and 3 of the Georisk World journal for 2020. In 2021, we plan to announce the submission of new articles for the second volume of the Proceedings.

In 2021, we will ask participants who have previously received personal invitations about their intention to participate in the conference. After confirmation, we plan to send the new invitations for new dates. Also, we will invite new participants.

We wish you all health and well-being, and hope to see you in Tajikistan in 2021.

Information from the Organizing Committee, May 31, 2020

The Organizing Committee informs about the preparations for the conference. More than 150 participants from 20 countries registered to participate in the conference. We sent personal invitations to all participants. The acceptance of articles in the conference proceedings has been completed. We received 54 papers. At present, we are working on the editing of the manuscripts and on the preparation of the proceedings volume.

Currently, additional circumstances have arisen that may affect the date of the conference. The outbreak of a new coronavirus infection has spread all over the world and led to the postponement of many conferences. Therefore, we postponed the distribution of the second announcement until the situation was clarified. Also, we did not publish the mechanism for paying the registration fee and participation in the field seminar.

Now in manycountries there is a gradual reduction in the limitations associated with thepandemic. The Organizing Committee is in frequent contact with governmentbodies of Tajikistan on issues related to the preparation of the conference.

Accordingto the previously published schedule, the conference is scheduled for September21-27, 2020. We hope that by then its holding in Tajikistan will be possible inthe format in which it was planned. The option of the remote format of theconference is not considered by the Organizing Committee.

Until June30, 2020, a decision will be made either that the conference will be held asscheduled, or to postpone the dates. We will notify the participants of thedecision. The Organizing Committee wishes all participants good health andhopes to meet in Tajikistan in September.
